Local coal companies James River Coal and International Coal Group of Hazard have teamed up with Tammy Horn, PH.D. of Eastern Kentucky University in a project to improve mine reclamation and re-establishing bees and beekeeping in the region.   Bees once thrived in eastern Kentucky Mountains,   however in the 1980's the bee population was nearly demolished by mites. According to Tammy Horn, PH.D., the bee population has yet to recover in our eastern Kentucky Mountains.

To learn more about this project and it’s importance to our region, you can visit Tammy Horn, PH.D.’s website at http://www.tammyhorn.com/projects.html
